The Cressent bureau plat has been copied by the best parisian cabinet makers of the late 19th century such as Henry Dasson or Emmanuel Alfred Beurdeley .

| | A large French late 19th century Louis XV style ormolu-mounted tulipwood and kingwood meuble à hauteur d'appui £ price on application by Cueunières for l'Escalier de Cristal, Paris
the serpentine campan marble above a pair of doors within a scrolling acanthus foliate surround, opening to an interior fitted with two shelves, flanked by a pierced foliate scroll to each front angle, on scrolling feet, 177cm wide, 55cm deep, 127.5cm high (69.5" wide, 21.5" deep, 50" high).
An identical grand meuble à hauteur d'appui, with the same marble top, can be seen in the old Palace of the Grand Duc Wladimir Alexandrovitch (1847-1909) in Saint Petersburg, Russia (see illustration).
This cabinet has been retailed by the firm A l'Escalier de cristal as can be seen in their books where features a design of the present lot. The firm is well known to have delivered furniture to the Russian court and aristocracy and notably to the Grand Duc Wladimir.
The note in the firm's book suggests that it was executed by Cueunières; the veneer, the construction and design of this cabinet confirm this attribution.
L. Cueunières was active in Paris from circa 1870, he had his own stand at the Paris Exposition Internationale Universelle of 1900 where he was awarded the Silver medal. He was regularly working as an ébéniste for the prestigious firm of A l'Escalier de Cristal in Paris, especially for the execution of 18th century style pieces.
