as a commemorative testimonial for his persistent efforts in promoting the repeal of the taxes upon literature and the press
Advertisement duty repealed on the 1st of August 1853
Compulsory stamp on newspapers on 15th June 1855
and the excise duty upon paper on the 1st October 1861
