A Pash and Sons are proud to offer this important pair of early Victorian candelabra by Mortimer and Hunt, London 1839. Each nine-light candelabrum cast and chased in naturalistic neo-rococo taste, the multi scrolling leaf capped branches and stems rising from tri-form bases which are applied with a serpent around each foot between cast and chased armorials. Further embellished with birds and insects and each with three cherubs, one on the upper central stem below the squirrel finial. The branches in three tiers of three both struck ‘147’, fully marked.
One makers mark ISH engraved “published as the act directs Febr.3.1840 Mortimer and Hunt , 156 New Bond Street London.”
The other makers mark IM&ISH (crown above) struck Mortimer and Hunt
Originally made for Victorian eccentric Robert Stayner Holford who built both the The National Arboretum and the Dorchester House Park Lane.
