This Service of plate was presented to John Birt Davies, MD (EDIN.) Extra licentiate of of the Royal College of Physicians, Professor of Forensic Medicine in the Royal School of Medicine and Surgery. Senior Physician to the general Dispensary Birmingham on the first day of August MDCCCXXXVI By certain Subscribers to the General Hospital and other Inhabitants of the Town and Neighborhood of Birmingham.

As a lasting memorial of the sense generally entertained of his professional skill
Of his active benevolence and charitable exertions in the capacity of Physician
To the Birmingham Dispensary and to the late Birmingham Fever Hospital
And of his kind sympathies and zealous attention during a period of XIII years

And likewise as a testimony of regret at the recent disappointment of his just cause
