Applied with the Beaufort arms, supporters, crest and coronet, the body cast and chased with a broad frieze depicting, on one side, King Charles I being greeted by Henry Somerset, 1st Marquess of Worcester and on the other Henry Somerset being created 1st Duke of Beaufort by King Charles II, the detachable cover with a finial cast as John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, holding a shield engraved with the Royal arms with a label for difference, applied with two figures emblematic of Loyalty and Patriotism,'

Presented on the 22nd June 1853 by the electors of the metropolitan borough of Lambeth to the Right Honorable Charles Tennyson D'Eyncourt. Their representative for twenty ears in the first five parliaments after their enfranchisement in 1832.

Curtis Miranda Lampson was born in Vermont on 21 September 1806. He settled in England in 1830 where he was naturalized eighteen years later. Upon the formation of the company for laying the Atlantic telegraph cable in 1856 he was appointed one of its directors, later becoming its chairman. He was also a Deputy Governor of the Hudson Bay Company and one of the Trustees of the Peabody Trus, The charitable foundation established by his friend and fellow countryman, George Peabody for the relief of the poor in London.
